A party dress for Isbel
A few weeks ago, while scrolling through Instagram, I noticed that Suz of Sewpony was holding a ‘Dressed In Sewpony’ sewing competition. This seemed like an ideal opportunity to cross a number of items off my to do list – 1) try one of Suz’s gorgeous patterns, 2) experiment with some embroidery ideas that have been floating around in my head for a while, 3) finally start my sewing blog, and 4) make a party dress for my five-year-old niece, Isbel.
I used the Juliette dress and top pattern which is easy to follow and comes with a range of different sleeve and collar options. I chose to make a few small changes to the collar to really make the embroidery stand out. I almost didn’t get it done in time (finding time to sew with a newborn is hard!) but I managed to finish it this weekend.
The dress is made of a lovely shot cotton I purchased at Spotlight. I embroidered the collar by hand with my own design. I haven’t done any embroidery for a very long time and I must say I’m very pleased with it! To complete the outfit, I made a matching embroidered hair tie using a self-covered button.
