Twin-ing with my bestie
One of my besties, Sarana, is an artist and ceramicist who makes many beautiful things. We decided we should do a joint project long ago, but then lots of things got in the way... Many months and two babies later we finally made it happen. Here are our matching fruity tops!
Sarana was responsible for the fabric printing and I was in charge of the sewing. Sarana hand painted the fabric (a soft cotton) using Permaset. I used one of my favourite free patterns by Peppermint Magazine and In The Folds. If you'd like to know more about this pattern see my early post entitled Black Linen Peplum Top.
Creatively, Sarana and I found the best process was for me to cut out the pattern pieces before she painted them. This worked well because it was efficient and it allowed Sarana to visualise how the print was going to work on the body.
It was so much fun to work together. Although I get a lot of joy out of sewing, it can be a bit lonely. The same is true of having a young baby. Perhaps this is why there is such an amazing community of sewers and mothers on Instagram. If you are a sewer and you have some creative friends, I definitely recommend a collaboration. Sarana and I are already planning many other joint projects. I'm looking forward to sharing more matching photos!
